Description

Lady and the Tramp Lady Original Animation Drawing (Walt Disney, 1955). "What's wrong pidge? A rat." The ever so delicate Lady is showing just how vicious she can be when it comes to protecting Jim Dear and Darling's baby in this original animation drawing. Walt Disney's Lady and the Tramp is a delightful tale of an uptown cocker spaniel dog whose life is turned upside down with the arrival of a newborn baby in her human family but then meets a streetwise downtown mutt who knows a thing or two about the realities of life as a dog. The animated romance film was theatrically released on 6/22/1955 marking this year as its 70th Anniversary! The precious Lady was animated by some of Disney's "Nine Old Men", including Ollie Johnston (1912-2008), Frank Thomas (1912-2004), and Milt Kahl (1909-1987), and was inspired by writer Joe Grant's (1908-2005) own Springer Spaniel named Lady. This acknowledgement of Joe Grant' involvement went unnoticed until the release of the 2006 Platinum Edition of Lady and the Tramp. Barbara Luddy (1908-1979) voiced the titular character Lady who also provided her talents for other Disney films such as Sleeping Beauty, One Hundred and One Dalmatians, and Winnie the Pooh. The wonderfully hand drawn image can be seen approximately at 1:05:08 mark of the feature film. The image of Lady measures 10" x 3.25" and is drawn on to a 3- peg hole animation paper that measures 15.5" x 12.5". The drawing is noted '34' is the upper right corner and is skillfully rendered in graphite with colored pencil. The overall condition is Very Good with light edge and handling wear, and minor age-related toning.
