Description
Brian Bolland USA Magazine #36 Joker Cover Original Art (L'Écho des Savanes, 1988). The Joker, fresh from his appearance in The Killing Joke, is featured here. This original art was drawn by Brian Bolland for the purpose of being used by Tanino Liberatore (of RanXerox fame) to produce the final fully painted cover for the French magazine USA Magazine #36 in 1988. This piece differs slightly from Liberatore's published cover, but it is the original inkwork used to produce the painting. The dramatic cover was created for a serialization of the Alan Moore/Brian Bolland story The Killing Joke published by DC Comics just two months prior to this magazine's release.Bolland's bold original work, created edge-to-edge on Bristol board in ink, marker, and red marker, was eventually published as-shown in the 2008 Batman: The Killing Joke - The Deluxe Edition. This piece of original art was originally purchased directly from Bolland in the early 2000s and is signed by Bolland in the lower right of the 11.75" x 16.25" board. Lightly affixed to a mat backing and matted to 17.5" x 22". In Excellent condition. Comes with a copy of USA Magazine #36.
