Action Comics #9 (DC, 1939) CGC FN+ 6.5 Off-white to white pages. The second-highest unrestored CGC-certified copy on record, one of just 22 in the census, with only a single copy graded higher at FN/VF 7.0. Remarkable page quality on this book with just the second cover to ever mention Superman's name (#7 being the first, even issue #1 didn't have his name on the cover), indicating that DC had an early inkling that it was Supes who was selling the book. Still, Superman did not become the full-fledged permanent cover feature until issue #19; this cover illustration is by Fred Guardineer, who had drawn the covers since issue #1. While there's always hope that more undiscovered Golden Age collections may surface, even some of the best finds to date haven't included higher-grade copies of these early Action Comics issues. This book represents an opportunity that may not come again... ever. Overstreet 2024 FN 6.0 value = $10,200; VF 8.0 value = $25,500.
