Description

Alex Schomburg Jon Juan #1 Title Page Original Art (Toby Press, 1950). Every Schomburg fan knows that this is the only comic the artist drew in its entirety (cover and interior), and that he drew very little interior panel art for the comics. "Jon Juan, the World's Greatest Lover" co-stars here with Cleopatra, Salome, Lucretia Borgia, a French courtesan, and four other women. A decorative inset notes that the clever script is by Superman co-creator Jerry Siegel, and the art is by Schomburg, the pre-eminent Golden Age cover artist. In addition to that, Schomburg snuck his initials in the last panel of this page - and every other page of the comic. This is one of Schomburg's last comic book assignments before he turned to commercial illustration, and it picks up on Erroll Flynn's last big-budget costume adventure, The Adventures of Don Juan (1948) - there is some resemblance. This gem has an Image area of 12" x 18". Aside from two area of white-out, the art is in Excellent condition.
