Description

S. Clay Wilson Zap Comix #9 Complete 6-Page Story "Travelin' Assassin" Original Art (Print Mint, 1978). Wilson, most outrageous of the Underground Comix innovators, marked the 10th-anniversary issue of Zap with this tale of a contract killer who encounters all manner of depravity and violence during his travels. As writer-artist, Wilson exhibits an unusually intricate pen line and a straightforward narrative arc, closing on a note of mystery. Laden with nudity, gore, and erotica, the story offers a vivid example of the artistry and the daring nature with which Wilson challenged his partners in the Zap series (Robert Crumb, Robert Williams, Gilbert Shelton, Spain Rodriguez, et al.) to shed their inhibitions and seek shock value as an artistic end in itself. Ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 9" x 13.5". Light toning, scattered retouching and adhesive seams. Excellent condition.
