Description

Milton Caniff Terry and the Pirates Sunday Comic Strip Original Art dated 8-4-46 (Chicago Tribune, 1946). This superb Sunday hails from near the end of Milton Caniff's remarkable run on Terry. In 1946, Caniff requested, but was denied, ownership of Terry and the Pirates. As a result he left the feature and created a new strip, Steve Canyon, for another syndicate. Always a consummate professional, Caniff maintained the first-rate quality of his work on Terry, even though he knew he would soon be leaving. This strip featuring Terry, Hotshot Charlie, Chopstick Joe, and other prominent characters, has an approximate image area of 25" x 17". Each panel of this Sunday was cut out and glued to a larger support paper, with the art extended to the edges of the panels. There is also some paper aging in the logo stat; otherwise, the art is in Very Good condition.
