Description

Carl Barks Menace Out of the Myths Preliminary Original Art Group (1973). Uncle Scrooge's tussle with the Larkies as originally shown in Uncle Scrooge #12 was the subject of one of Carl Barks' most celebrated paintings, Menace Out of the Myths. In preparing for the painting, Barks completed a number of preliminary drawings, and these early versions were reproduced in Another Rainbow's lavish coffee table book, The Fine Art of Donald Duck. Here are five original pencil drawings, including the first 12" x 9" rough sketch, dated April 8, 1973; a tighter 12" x 9" drawing on sketch paper; two detailed drawings on 11" x 8.5" tracing paper; and finally, a full-sized sketch in red pencil and graphite on 23" x 18" tracing paper. In addition, there's a rough painted color study in oils, combined on two pieces of acetate, and a photocopy of one of the smaller pencil studies. The larger piece has some edge and fold tears, but is in Good condition, and overall, the art averages in Very Good condition.
