Description
Al Feldstein Shock SuspenStories #1 Cover Original Art (EC, 1952). One of the most iconic EC Comics covers ever! The grim electric-chair scene is full of wonderful expressions that range from shock to horror to revulsion to demented glee! Inside the issue, the EC gang noted, "We feel a word of explanation is due regarding the cover! As you will discover, it has nothing to do with any of the stories in this magazine! Since this was to be the first issue of SHOCK, we wanted a real shock cover! Know of anything more shocking than an electric chair? Neither did we, so that was it!" The twice-up wonder was created in ink over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 13.5" x 19.25". The masthead contains a hand-drawn logo, with stat trade dressing paste-ups. The caption box in the art area is a combination of hand-lettering and stat paste-up. Signed in the lower right of the image area and matted to 18" x 24".
