Playboy #1 Page 3 Copy (HMH Publishing, 1953) CGC VF- 7.5 Off-white to white pages. As true aficionados of fine reading know, there are three versions of Playboy's historic first issue, all considered first printings. This is a nice copy of the rarer "Page 3" version, so named because unlike the more common newsstand version, page 3 of the magazine is actually numbered! From the outside it's exactly the same -- why would anyone dare to edit the stunning image of Marilyn Monroe? Norma Jean was, of course, not only the perfect cover girl, she was the perfect first "Sweetheart of the Month," later renamed "Playmate of the Month." Because of the rarity factor, copies of the "Page 3" version are more valuable than copies of the regular newsstand versions in the same grade. According to CGC, only four "Page 3" copies have been certified nicer than our offering to date. CGC census 3/12: 2 in 7.5, 4 higher.
