Description

Pep Comics #22 (MLJ, 1941) CGC Apparent FR/GD 1.5 Slight (A) Slightly brittle pages. The first appearance of Archie is one of the toughest books to find among the Golden Age keys. In fact, this is just the second copy Heritage has offered in 11 years of auctioning top-flight Golden Age collections. The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide moved the issue way up this year in its ranking, where it now occupies the #14 spot on the Top 100 Golden Age Books list. Betty Cooper and Jughead also made their first appearances in this issue. The cover, featuring the Shield, is by Irv Novick. CGC notes, "Restoration includes: small amount of color touch on cover, small amount of glue on spine of cover. (Moderate tape on cover.)" Overstreet 2012 GD 2.0 value = $8,000.
