Description
Jack Kirby and Mike Royer Black Panther #1 Double Splash Pages 2-3 Original Art (Marvel, 1977). Black Panther gets his own title after starring in a 24-issue run in Jungle Action from 1972-1976. In addition, he gets artwork by the King of Comics, Jack Kirby! Notations in the top margin indicate this was initially planned for issue #25 before the new title came to fruition. Hot after his creative explosion at DC Comics from 1970-75, and still teamed with his inker Mike Royer from the Fourth World Saga, Kirby poured all of that energy into making Black Panther one of the most off-beat and exciting books from this period. Our hero is joined by Mister Little, his sidekick throughout the series, who is grabbing the Brass Frog that was the major plot point at the time. This stunning double-page spread was created in ink over graphite on oversized Bristol board with an image area of 22" x 15". The toned board is personalized and signed by Kirby in the lower right, and noted as being signed in Lucca, Italy in 1976. There are two vertical creases through the image area, and a stripped-in text correction in Panther's word balloon. In Good condition.More information about Jack Kirby.
