Studio Ghibli Calendar Group of 5 (Studio Ghibli, c. 1980-90). Featured in this lot is an extraordinary collection of five, rare, oversized, vintage calendars that display artwork from some of Hayao Miyazaki's (considered "The Walt Disney of Japan") most famous animated movies: Castle in the Sky, Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, and Kiki's Delivery Service. Each of these fantastic 14.25" x 20.25" calendars covers and their interior six pages, features gorgeous high-quality printed images of watercolor illustrations from the pre-productions of the films, with the Kiki's Delivery Service calendar showing images from the movie. The lot includes the 1987, 1988, and 1991 Pazu & Sheeta calendars from Castle in the Sky, the 1991 calendar for Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, and the 1991 calendar for Kiki's Delivery Service. Two of the Castle in the Sky calendars display light mold stains on the covers, and the lot overall shows light handling and edge wear, with some also showing mold on the back. One of the Castle in the Sky calendars shows small pieces missing from the bottom edge. The overall condition is Good to Very Good. This auction lot, warehoused for decades, comes from the vast Anime Archive Collection of Al Zequeira, a pioneer in the field of Anime, who helped bring the genre from Japan to the U.S. in the 1980's and promoted it during his association with the now legendary Kimono my House and Streamline Pictures, as a graphic designer of t-shirts and cloisonne pins and as a garage kit Art Director. Mr. Zequeira went on to become a film, television, music video, and commercial prop & set dressing fabricator, on such productions as The Chronicles of Riddick, Star Trek: Voyager & Deep Space Nine, an Art Director, Production Designer in Asia, and a Walt Disney Imagineer (Tokyo DisneySea). He has since worked with such recording artists as Miley Cyrus, Lady Gaga, and Katy Perry.Auction Info
