Description

SpongeBob SquarePants "Arrgh!" SpongeBob and Patrick Production Cel Setup with Master Background (Nickelodeon, 1999). "He's not here." "Look... The treasure map." Wondering where Mr. Krabs has disappeared to, its pirate crewmen SpongeBob and Patrick in this original Master setup from Episode 17's "Arrgh!" of the fan-favorite Nicktoon SpongeBob SquarePants. Currently the fourth-longest running American animated series ever with 15 seasons and over 300 episodes, this wildly-popular Nickelodeon original only utilized traditional cel animation for the first season. "Arrgh!" premiered on March 15, 2000 and saw Mr. Krabs become utterly obsessed with SpongeBob's Flying Dutchman's Treasure Hunt board game to the point of planning a real treasure hunt using the game's map. SpongeBob and Patrick can be spotted entering their captain's tent near the 7:51 timestamp of the segment when viewed online just before they make the shocking discovery about the map, while the night sky background is seen slightly later near the 9:22 and 10:44 timestamps as Mr. Krabs tries to secure his cut of the booty. SpongeBob and Patrick stand at 4.25" and 6" respectively within the absolutely frame-filling full hand-painted image area of 9.25" x 7.5" which includes hand-inked character detail on the multilayer 12 field cel which is numbered in the lower right of each layer. The Master background is hand-painted in gouache on background board measuring approximately 14" x 10.5" overall with production codes along the lower edge. Background artists for Episode 17 include Peter Bennett, Michael Chen, Andy 'Spike' Clark, and Calvin G. Liang. With typical handling and edge wear including some remaining tape with minor surface wear/residue, overall these pirate pals are in Very Good condition.
