The Ren & Stimpy Show Background Color Key Painting Group of 11 (Nickelodeon, c. 1991-95). From the absolutely wild world of The Ren & Stimpy Show comes this unusual group of 11 original background color key paintings created for at least three different episodes or their iconic short segments. Ren & Stimpy debuted the Nicktoons lineup alongside Doug and Rugrats on August 11, 1991 and would go on to run for 52 episodes over five seasons. Believed to be created for episodes that aired in Seasons Four and Five, these color keys either lack production codes altogether or bear unidentified numbers including #356, #358, and #409. Hand-painted in gouache, 10 of the color keys share similar overall sizes of approximately 6.75" x 5.5" including a cel painted cloud overlay, with the singular pan of the locker room measuring 15.25" x 5.5" all presented on trimmed background boards. Color keys like these are miniature paintings used to establish the look and feel to the backgrounds that will be used in an animated production. With typical handling and edge wear including some roughly trimmed edges and pinholes, overall this rare and diverse collection is in Very Good condition.Auction Info
