Description
SpongeBob SquarePants "Karate Choppers" Sandy Cheeks, SpongeBob, and Patrick Star Production Cel (Nickelodeon, 1999). "Kara-tay? You should be making me money-ay! With your spatu-lae! Now get back to work!" "Aye aye, capi-tay." SpongeBob heads back to the grill past Sandy and Patrick in this original multilayer production cel from the Season 1 segment "Karate Choppers" of his eponymous Nickelodeon series. Created by former marine science teacher, Stephen Hillenburg, SpongeBob SquarePants is a wildly popular Nicktoon series which presently ranks fifth in the list of longest running American animated series ever. Its 14th season is currently airing with season 15 in production, but only the first season was produced using traditional cel animation. "Karate Choppers" aired as the second segment of episode 14 on New Year's Eve 1999, and featured the ongoing martial arts matchup of the century, sea sponge versus land squirrel. SpongeBob can be spotted near the 5:02 mark and Sandy is seen slightly later near the 7:09 mark of the segment when viewed online; Patrick's layer appears to be from a different, undetermined episode. All featured full-figured and hand-painted with hand-inked details, Sandy measures 2" x 4.25", SpongeBob measures 2" x 3.5", and Patrick measures 2.75" x 4.25". The 12 field cel bears production codes along the lower edge of each layer, and has been placed on a print background for display purposes. A CoA is included, however it misattributes the setup to "The Paper" segment of episode 16. With typical studio handling and edge wear including trimming to the left and right edges of SpongeBob and Sandy's layers, small areas of faint surface creasing/wear with a 0.5" tear near the lower right corner of SpongeBob's layer, minor linework wear with areas of restoration, and faint color bleed paint wear to some white areas of SpongeBob and Patrick, overall this expressive cel is in Very Good condition.Auction Info
