Description

CatDog "The Collector" Cat and Rancid Rabbit Production Cel Key Master Setup (Nickelodeon, 1998). "These are real collectors' items, worth a fortune someday." Appealing to Cat's avidity, Rancid Rabbit makes an investment offer Cat can't refuse in this original Key Master setup from the season 1 episode 11 segment "The Collector" of the wacky Nicktoon CatDog. After a successful single-episode preview in April of 1998 with the full series beginning that October, CatDog was the 8th Nickelodeon original animated television series to debut within the decade and continued airing new episodes until June of 2005. With a plot purportedly inspired by Beanie Baby craze of the 90s, Cat spends "The Collector" deep in investment-collection hype for any Mean Bob action figure he can find, while Dog only wants a singular figure to open and play with. This frame can be spotted near the 13:36 mark of the full episode at the exact moment that Rancid Rabbit convinces Cat that this toy purchase could make him abundantly wealthy in due time. The pair share a combined hand-painted character size of 6.5" x 6.75" with production codes found in the lower right of the 12 field cel. The masterfully crafted Key Master background features a veritable mountain of playthings behind the sandbag counter of Rancid's Toys, hand-painted in gouache and ink on 12 field background board with an image area of 10.75" x 7.75" and the production codes CD-414 A and BG 21 found along the lower edge. Background for this episode were created by Bill Dunn, Kit Boyce, Kathy Kim, and Shelly Shinjo. With typical studio handling and wear including minor linework wear with areas of restoration, a few pinpoint spots of paint loss, minor surface debris/wear, and light edge wear/warping to the background, overall this Key Master setup is in Very Good condition.
