Description

George of the Jungle Ape and George Production Cel and Master Production Background (Jay Ward, 1967). "When he gets in a scrape, he makes his escape with the help of his friend, an ape named Ape." George and Ape are fearful of something (but not a tree this time!) in an original hand-inked, hand-painted two-level production cel. George of the Jungle was a popular Saturday morning series animated by the Jay Ward Studio in Hollywood, with a bigger budget than Jay's earlier Rocky and Bullwinkle series which was animated in Mexico by Gamma Productions. The series was unfortunately cancelled after only 17 episodes due to the high production costs. The combined image area of Ape and George has an approximate size of 5.25" x 4.5"; the cel is placed on a George and the Jungle hand-painted background and placed in a rare Jay Ward Productions mat, indicating this setup was first sold at the Dudley Do-Right Emporium in Hollywood (open from 1971 to 2005). The mat has an opening of 9" x 7" and an overall size of 13" x 10". The mat has some handling wear and small stains, and the cel/background setup has some handling wear. Good to Very Good condition.
