Description

Two-Gun Mickey Peg Leg Pete and his Gang Layout Drawings Group of 3 (Walt Disney, 1934). Disney's first major villain is an overgrown, blusterous blow-hard named Pete, or Peg Leg Pete was he was called in his early appearances. Pete is seen to great advantage in this rollicking Wild West short directed by Ben Sharpsteen. In the first of this group of original 12 field 2-peghole animation layout drawings, Pete's gang gets shot down from a narrow rock formation, as seen at the 6:17 mark in online viewings; the drawing is in tight graphite with a red pencil image for the rock, all within a blue pencil frame measuring approximately 9.25" x 7", noted as 3. A second layout of the gang shows them falling and dropping into a hole in the ground, in a scene that also begins at the 6:17 mark; this is an all-graphite image within a red pencil frame, extending slightly by the top man. The drawing is noted as 1. The last drawing is from the final shot of Pete stuck inside a large cactus as Mickey leads him back to town, at the 9:10 mark. Mickey on horseback can be seen in the lower part of the image. This one is in graphite with cool green and red pencil highlights, with a main image size of 4" x 4.5", and numbered 73 in the upper right corner. Condition is Good to Very Good with some handling and edge wear, and mild age-related paper toning.
