Description
Athena - Wata 9.2 C+ Sealed [Hangtab, First Production], NES SNK 1987 USA. This is one of just two first-production copies variant of Athena for the NES on Wata's September 2025 census. Of the three recognized variants, this one has the lowest population. Adapted from SNK's 1986 arcade release, the game is a platformer that is notable for featuring one of the earliest humanoid female protagonists in video game history. This North American NES exclusive has become a sought-after collectible in sealed condition--especially with its original cardboard hangtab box, a packaging style discontinued in 1987. The box for this copy shows only mild corner wear, and the seal damage--two 1" tears and a 2.75" x 2.25" piece of seal is missing--is on the back (the upper half), meaning the game presents very nicely on display.
