Description

Jean Giraud (Moebius) Far West "Frank et Jérémie" Story Page 4 Original Art (Éditions Mireille, 1957). Jean Giraud was not yet 18 when he published his first comic story, "Frank et Jérémie", in the magazine Far West. The mastery of the young artist (who would later go on to create some of the most iconic works in European comics) is already evident in these dynamic panels, where the human and animal figures move with remarkable fluidity and the composition shows level of artistic control well beyond his years. A rare piece and a key early work from the formative years of one of the great legends of Franco-Belgian comics. The page is rendered in ink and ink wash over graphite on Bristol board, with an image area of 10" x 14.5". Whiteout touch-ups. The descriptive texts are original paste-ups. Editorial notes in the right and lower margins. The lightly toned board shows a gently visible horizontal fold line between the second and third tiers, along with pinholes in the corners. Light handling and corner wear. Signed. In Very Good condition.
