Philippe Druillet John Carter, Échec Sur Mars #5 Cover Original Art (Edition Spéciale, 1971). Dramatic cover with a style blending science fiction and fantasy, created by Philippe Druillet - the major artist who, a few years later, co-founded the magazine Métal Hurlant with Jean Giraud and Jean-Pierre Dionnet. Produced for the French edition of The Chessmen of Mars, the fifth novel in Edgar Rice Burroughs' Barsoom (or John Carter of Mars) series, this striking image is rendered in ink and gouache on thick illustration board with an image area of 15.25" x 14.5".
