Description

Dale Messick Brenda Starr Cut-Outs Sunday Comic Strip dated 10-23-49 (Chicago Tribune, 1949). Dale Messick's Cut-Outs, also known as Brenda Starr Fashion Cut-Outs, served as a topper, or companion feature, to the main Brenda Starr feature. This splendid example of the funnypapers' paper-doll craze bears Messick's delicate hand-coloring, applied after publication. The logotype and signature are an integral part of the essential artwork. Leroy Method (stencil) lettering at center and right gives credit to fans who suggested the fashion items depicted. Ink and watercolor over graphite on Bristol board with an image area of 28.25" x 6". Slight toning, marginal pinholes, with light soiling/staining, creasing, and edge/handling wear. In Very Good condition.
