Garfield: His 9 Lives "Cave Cat" Cave Cat Garfield and Girl Cave Cat Production Cel Setup (Film Roman, 1988). "And then came the first girl cat." This Emmy-nominated Garfield special looks at the origins of cats in its first segment, "Cave Cat." In this section of the special, Garfield's prehistoric predecessor "Cave Cat," emerges from the sea as the first cat in history to live on dry land. Shortly after, a pink-hued girl cat arrives on the scene, and Cave Cat becomes smitten by her. This image depicts Cave Cat as he discovers that he likes this new girl cat, a moment that can be found at about the 2:43 mark of the special. This setup is composed of two fantastic original, hand-painted production cels and it depicts the eager Cave Cat as he greets his new sweetheart. The image of Cave Cat measures about 3.5" tall on its 12 field cel, while the girl cat measures about 3.25" tall. The cels are marked in their lower right corners with 145 and G143, and they have been set atop a color print background from the special for presentation. The condition of this energetic piece is Good to Very Good, with some handling and edge wear and some paint remnants on the side of the girl cat's cel.From the Jim Davis Collection.
