Dan Spiegle Space Family Robinson: Lost in Space on Space Station One #44 Story Page 13 Original Art (Gold Key/Western Publ., 1975). An early example of metafiction -- the self-conscious development of a new narrative from a familiar old literary source -- is Space Family Robinson, a long-running takeoff on Johann Wyss' castaway-adventure novel of 1812, Swiss Family Robinson. The SF-adventure franchise is better known nowadays as Lost in Space. This sequence finds Spiegle exploring the cruelties of nature as castaway explorers encounter indigenous wildlife.
