Description

Billy DeBeck Barney Google and Snuffy Smith Daily Comic Strip Original Art dated 12-23-40 (King Features Syndicate, 1940). Pvt. Snuffy Smith finds himself fascinated with a photograph of a mysterious woman, to the chagrin of his commanding officer. Smith was a co-creation of DeBeck and studio assistant Fred Lasswell, inspired by their interest in adding a caricatured Southerner to the ensemble cast of Barney Google. Smith gradually became a co-starring presence, and at length the star player. The image area of this ink-over-graphite daily is 16.5" x 4", on a sheet of Bristol board. Its extensive layers of shading film have yellowed deeply with age. The condition is Good.
