Description
The New Scooby-Doo Movies "The Haunted Horseman of Hagglethorn Hall" Velma, Daphne, Davy Jones, and the Moat Monster Production Cel Setup with Speed Buggy "The Ringmaster" Production Background (Hanna-Barbera, c. 1972/73). "But I've never sung for frogs before, just Monkees." "Go on, it's worth a try!" Velma and Daphne try to convince Davy Jones that his dulcet tones can calm the Moat Monster in this original production cel set up from "The Haunted Horseman of Hagglethorn Hall" episode of The New Scooby-Doo Movies paired with an original production background from Speed Buggy's "The Ringmaster" episode. Set in Hagglethorn Castle, a 14th-century Scottish castle brought brick-by-brick to America by its first Earl and guest starring the Earl's nephew Davy Jones of The Monkees (voiced by himself; 1945-2012), this episode has the gang attempting to solve the haunting of Jones' ancestral home. Having split from the rest of the group, Daphne, Velma, and Davy encounter the Moat Monster in the castle's underground caverns spotted near the 28:02 mark of episode 13. The trio share a hand-painted combined image area of 11.75" x 4.75" with the monstrous frog measuring 4.25" x 3.5" on the multilayer 12 field cel which bears production codes along the lower edge of each layer. Interestingly, Davy Jones' character image has been color corrected on the top side of the cel as he was initially incorrectly painted in Fred's colors. The hand-painted background comes episode 11 of Speed Buggy, "The Ringmaster", and can be spotted near the 2:22 mark. It has been rendered in gouache on board to an image area of 10" x 12.75" and bears the production code 65-10 (incorrectly identifying it as episode 10) with BG-19. With typical studio handling and wear including the noted paint correction, paint wear with areas of loss to Velma and Daphne's shoulders, removal/reattachment of the cel layers' pegholes with remaining tape, staples binding the cel layers, light surface debris, and minor edge/surface wear to the background, overall this dramatic setup is in Good condition.Auction Info
