Jim Woodring Tantalizing Stories #2 "Frank Acquires Pupshaw" Story Page 6 Preliminary Original Art (Tundra, 1992). Frank may have debuted on the cover of JIM #4 at the end of 1990, with his first story following a few months later in Buzz #2, but his unforgettable companion Pupshaw wouldn't arrive until 1992 in this very story. Frank brings Pupshaw home after buying what looks like a fearsome pet from one of the Jerry Chickens. While Pupshaw ultimately proves loyal, the sinister shadow in Frank's house that inspired the purchase in the first place leaves him completely unraveled, trembling in the corner and even vomiting tiny versions of himself in sheer terror. This preliminary art mirrors every panel of the final published page from Jim Woodring's wordless, pantomime-style comic, capturing the same surreal beats in their earliest form. Graphite over blue pencil on paper with an image area of 9.5" x 13". Slight toning, small piece missing and abrasion at the bottom, pulled-tape abrasions on the reverse, minor edge tears, smudging, light staining, and handling wear. Personalized by Woodring in the top margin. In Very Good condition.Auction Info
