Joe Simon - The Shield (Lancelot Strong) Character Illustration Original Art (undated). "The new improved Shield 1959"! A character concept illustration of Lancelot Strong as the patriotic superhero, The Shield, based on the 1940 MJL Comics hero, by co-creator Joe Simon. This piece shows Strong in his original costume created by Simon and Jack Kirby in 1959 for Archie's new line of Adventure comics, with this piece likely produced in the 1970-80s. Ink and watercolor over graphite on paper with an image area of 4" x 7.25". Slight toning, unevenly trimmed edges, whiteout touch-up, with creasing, spot staining, and handling wear.
