Description

L.F. Van Zelm The Christian Science Monitor Editorial Comics Panel Original Art (1944). France's armed resistance against Nazi occupation had began in earnest during 1941, peaking in merciless fighting by the spring of 1944. Van Zelm celebrates the Axis-buster campaign with a reference to "La Marseillaise" (the French national anthem) and a militant stance astride a symbolic countryside. Here is a high point in Van Zelm's sustained career with The Christian Science Monitor, distinguished by numerous cartoon harangues against the Axis. Ink and shading film over graphite on Bristol board, with an image area of 10.25" x 12.25". A very faint pencil-sketch appears on the reverse. The paper is unevenly toned (darker at right margin) and in Very Good condition.
