Defender - Wata GEN Sealed [Comic Book Included, Hanger Box] (Alamogordo Dump Excavation #08861), 2600 Atari 1982 USA. We are thrilled to present Defender from the famous Alamogordo landfill excavation, one of the most storied events in video game history. Based on Williams' 1981 arcade classic, this Atari 2600 release was among the thousands of unsold and overstocked games buried in the New Mexico desert. Long dismissed by many as an urban legend, the burial was confirmed in 2013-2014 during the dig documented in the film Atari: Game Over, which became a mainstream media sensation. This copy of Defender is thoroughly destroyed-yet that condition is part of its allure, with the ravaged box itself telling a remarkable story. The slab includes a metal plaque marked "Property of City of Alamogordo, NM." This marks the first time we have offered Defender from the Alamogordo excavation, and this sale also includes a copy of Centipede from the event.View the certification for PSA Certification ID 597706-006, including grader's notes if available.
