Description
The New Casper Cartoon Show Bumper Card/Production Cel and Key Master Production Background (Famous Studios, c. 1960s). This is a bumper card from The New Casper Cartoon Show. In broadcasting, a commercial bumper, or break-bumper often shortened to bump, is a little interstitial (i.e. in between) animation that reminds you what you're watching, or tells you what's on next or something else of interest. Usually two to fifteen seconds in length, a common bumper phrase is "We'll be right back after these messages" or variations of it. The bumper card consists of four cel layers. The background is made of hand-painted cels and line work on acetate over a color card. The characters are hand-painted 12 field size cels. Originally created for an unsold children's book concept, Casper first came to the big screen in 1945. Famous Studios went on to produce theatrical cartoons of Casper the Friendly Ghost under their "Modern Madcap" and "Noveltoons" banners. He eventually got his own television show in 1963 called The New Casper Cartoon Show and it featured a combination of new and old cartoons. Bumper cels (like title card cels) are prized by collectors for their scarcity uniqueness. This is a terrific piece of vintage production art.
