Description
Pluto's Party Painted Background (Walt Disney, 1952). "Jimmy, Billy, Freddy, Huey, Georgie, Dewey, Louie, Ronnie, Tommy, and Pluto!" Mickey Mouse sets the table for the many party guests for Pluto's birthday in the Milt Schaffer-directed theatrical short Pluto's Party. Released on 9/19/1952, Pluto's Party tells the story of Pluto's birthday and the various ways it doesn't go quite as he had planned. Seen at the :36 mark of the film, this lovely and eye-popping original production background is by the hand of the great Disney background artist Thelma Witmer (1901 - 1996). This colorful piece is rendered in gouache on 12 field 5-peghole background board. Protected by a sheet of acetate, the painting shows minor handling and edge wear, and it is numbered 2434 and Sc.2-8 with the approval signatures reading "Nick" and "R.C." at the bottom edge.
