Description
Bambi Friend Owl Courvoisier Production Cel Courvoisier Setup (Walt Disney, 1942). "Stop that racket." Included in this lot is a beautiful production cel Courvoisier setup of Friend Owl from Bambi complete with an atmospheric gouache and airbrush Courvoisier hand-painted background. These setups were created in collaboration between Disney and Guthrie Courvoisier, who sold them and other Disney production artwork through his galleries until 1946. Friend Owl is close to Bambi in both the original film and the sequel where he is the first to congratulate Bambi's mother on the young prince's birth and the one to teach Bambi, Thumper, and Flower what twitterpated is once spring arrives. He is full figure, hand-inked and hand-painted, and about 4.25'' x 4'' where he has been meticulously trimmed to figure and attached to a new cel. The irritable owl appears near 44:38 as he wakes to find all of the nearby birds chirping and in love, shouting for them to quiet down so he can get a bit more rest. The cel remains in the original 16'' x 14.5'' Courvoisier mat where you can faintly see where he hand-written title was as well as the WDP stamp in the lower right. There is light toning to the mat. The cel is trimmed. Very Good condition with light handling wear, and minimal rippling/paint wear to the cel.Auction Info
