Description

Fun and Fancy Free Bongo Color Model/Production Cel and Master Production Background (Walt Disney, 1947). This is a RARE color model/production cel featuring the titular bear from the "Bongo" segment of Disney's ninth animated feature film, Fun and Fancy Free. In visual arts, a color model is a studio document used to help standardize the appearance of a character with respect to color of the character, props or environment. The document is used by other artists as well as ink and paint as a reference tool to help maintain continuity. "Bongo" is the story of a circus bear cub, who was fed up with the mistreatment from the circus people, runs away from the circus to the wild and the adventures there that follow. After a failed attempt at catching a fish, he meets Lulubelle and instantly falls in love with her, but when villain-bear Lumpjaw shows up and Lulubelle playfully slaps Bongo things get confusing. Disney legend Ward Kimball served as supervising animator with backgrounds painted by Ed Starr, Claude Coats, Art Riley, Brice Mack, Ray Huffine, and Ralph Hulett. We can see this image of bongo around the 23:42 mark and the background near the 5:22 mark. It's a terrific setup. Framed to 21.5" x 20" with an aperture of 11.5" x 9.5". Cel setup appears in Very Good condition. All frames are sold as-is. Photos are not representative of actual frame condition.
