Description
Herb Ryman Audio-Animatronic Concept Art Group of 2 (c. 1980s). Presented is a fantastic pair of concept pieces featuring a proposed character named Casey, believed to be for the Audio-Animatronic Development Project of the mid to late 1980s. The artwork is from the hand of Disney Legend Herb Ryman (1910 - 1989). In 1953, Walt Disney asked Herb Ryman to sketch an idea for an amusement park that would appeal to both children and adults. Over a single weekend-and with Walt looking over his shoulder-Herb took a small carbon pencil and illustrated Walt's dreams on paper. Herb had an uncanny knack for translating Walt's ideas into drawings. Perhaps this was because, like Walt, he was a child at heart. Former president of Walt Disney Imagineering, Marty Sklar, once said, "Herbie was like our own little Tinker Bell at WDI. He was always sprinkling pixie dust on everyone and he never grew up. He had a tremendous curiosity for everything and everybody." Herb created these concept pieces using graphite and gouache on boards of 23" x 29" and 10.75" x 17" on Arches paper. It's a fascinating look into the early stages of creating a new audio-animatronics character. The artwork exhibits edge wear with water stains along the bottom of the larger piece.
