Description
Three Little Pigs, Chip 'n' Dale and Secondary Character Studio Model Sheet Print Group of 12 (Walt Disney, c. 1930s-50s). Some of Disney's rarest characters are featured in this group of original studio-used model sheets. Studio model sheets are an important part of the animation process, and vintage pieces like this are always in demand with Disney collectors. This widely varied group includes some very familiar faces mixed with the less-known stars. In the first, Mickey Mouse is included on a model sheet of Pete, for Mr. Mouse Takes a Trip (1940). The Three Little Pigs, who were featured in several shorts, are represented by two sheets; one simply noted as "3 Little Pigs" with 20 small images, and another sheet with one large image of all three. Chip and Dale are featured in "Peanut Paradise" (Working for Peanuts, 1953). There are four model sheets for Ludwig Von Drake, with two copies of each. Other sheets feature Orville the Baby Bird (from Pluto's Fledgling, 1948); Ronnie the Pup (from The Purloined Pup, 1946); the African native from Mickey's Man Friday, from the aborted 1940 remake in color (NOTE: these are racially insensitive images from a less-enlightened time); and Frankie the Canary from Frankie and Figaro (1947), with one size comparison image of Figaro the Cat. This sheet has an odd notation, to "See Ann Dvorak" but it's unknown if this screen actress was involved or her image used to model some expressions. The sheets are on photo paper and regular copy paper, with most measuring 14" x 11"; the Three Little Pigs sheets are both larger, at 17" x 13.5" and 17" x 14". Overall condition is Good to Very Good, with handling and edge wear, and fold creases on the two larger sheets. From the UPA and Disney Animator Paul Carlson Archive.
