Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust Benge and Kyle Marcus Pan Production Cel Setup with Key Master Background, Animation Drawing, and Layout Drawing Group of 6 (Madhouse, 2000). "Well, how convenient this is for me! Come on out here so I can finish the job! Your time is up! Come on, you coward!" Kyle Marcus taunts the Barbarois assassin Benge, who wields the power to traverse the shadows as he hunts his prey. Seen at the 35:42 mark of the Yoshiaki Kawajiri-directed Vampire Hunter D: Bloodlust, this is a jaw-dropping hand-painted pan production cel setup featuring Benge and Kyle (hiding behind the machinery), displayed on its original Key Master background. This stunning, massive piece is perfectly exemplary of the masterful background artwork seen throughout the film, rendered expertly in gouache on 15" x 17" board. The elaborate backgrounds of the film are attributed to a large team of talented artists, one of whom is Kazuo Oga, well known for defining the aesthetics of Studio Ghibli films with his lush, vivid scenery and art direction. This setup is joined by two matching original layout drawings and two character animation drawings, rendered in graphite and color pencil on large sheets of 13.5" x 17.25" animation paper (the drawing of Benge is on 10.5" x 17.5" animation paper). The layout drawings show pinholes in the upper edges. In addition, this lot includes a small studio photocopy of Kyle Marcus. Overall minor handling and edge wear with staples in the corners of the setup, and the condition of this rare set is Very Good.More information about Madhouse Artist.
