Description
Dog, Cat, and Cow Animator's Practice Drawing Original Art (Warner Brothers, c. 1940s). Willoughby the Dog appeared in ten Looney Tunes shorts, beginning with Of Fox and Hounds in 1940, and ending with the 1952 short Foxy by Proxy. A dog that looks very similar to the dim-witted hound is the main image on this 12 field sheet of animator's practice drawings. Willoughby is also seen as an outline head shot, in the middle of a loud bark. The strutting cat in the upper left leads us to believe this was done around the time of The Hep Cat (1942). The cat's strut and markings are similar to the cat in this Robert Clampett-directed short, but that cat's image was more exaggerated than this more realistic version. There's also an angry cat face plus an angry cow face - maybe the cartoonist was upset with something or someone that day! The art is in graphite and red pencil with the notation 75 in the lower right corner. What looks looks like "Warren" (or possibly "Warner") is lightly written on the back - could these drawings be by writer/animator/composer Warren Foster? You be the judge! Condition is Good to Very Good with some handling and edge wear, and mild age-related paper toning.Auction Info
