Description
The Blue Book of Fairy Tales Little Golden Book Front Cover Illustration by Gordon Laite plus Published Book (Golden Press, 1959). Rapunzel, the Handsome Prince, and the terrible Witch all appear on the cover of this Little Golden Book #374 which retells that story plus two others. Here is the original artwork for the cover, which was obviously altered when printed, with added deeper blue to help the contrast against the white horse. However, the lighter background works just fine in this original gouache on skimmed illustration board that has been reattached to the backing board with tape. The art is by Gordon Laite (1925 - 1978), the son of Charle Laite, a former stage actor who also appeared in several silent films; Gordon's mother was the artist for one of the most popular children's books ever published, The Real Mother Goose published in 1916 by Rand McNally, so talent obviously ran in the family! The gouache artwork has an approximate image size of 10.25" x 13" with a board size of 12" x 15.25". A copy of the book is included. The art is in Good condition with some handling/edge wear, very light staining noticeable on the horse, and very slight creasing along the upper right.More information about Children's Book Illustrator.
