Tim Burton's The Nightmare Before Christmas Mayor of Halloween Town Original Storyboard by Jorgen Klubien (Walt Disney, 1993). Outstanding original storyboard panel from Tim Burton's stop-motion musical dark-fantasy romance The Nightmare Before Christmas, depicting the moment the Mayor of Halloween Town arrives to confer with Jack about plans for next year's Halloween. Rendered in ink and marker on 5.5" x 8.5" paper by renowned story artist Jorgen Klubien (signed on the reverse), the drawing crisply stages the Mayor's traffic-cone silhouette, tall top hat, spider bow tie, and ribboned "MAYOR" button, while hinting at his literal two-faced nature-happy on one side, anxious on the other. (Voiced by the late Glenn Shadix, the character's swiveling moods are a comic engine throughout the film.) Storyboards like this translate script into cinema, pre-visualizing camera angle, shot size, eyelines, and character blocking-a process refined at Walt Disney Studios since the early 1930s and indispensable to stop-motion planning. Klubien, a Danish-American CalArts alum, contributed to The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993) and The Lion King (1994), later shaping Pixar's A Bug's Life and Cars. Production-used boards of key character beats are scarce. With its clean composition and quintessential Mayor performance, this panel is a prize for Burton aficionados and original production-art collectors.
