Description
Princess Mononoke Ashitaka and Villager Production Cel Setup with Animation Drawing (Studio Ghibli, 1997). After saving Kohroku and helping him return to Iron Town, Ashitaka sits with the village men to have a meal while they tell him how Lady Eboshi dealt with the boar god Nago to get the iron from the mountain the boar was guarding. Set in the late Muromachi period of Japan, Princess Mononoke follows Ashitaka as he grapples with the conflict between the forest gods and the humans seeking to use the resources of the land. This production cel setup showcases the stoic Ashitaka measuring 6.25" next to the 7.25" villager, in the 14" x 9" hand-painted production setup, numbered C2 for Ashitaka and A10 for the Villager, displayed on a printed background for presentation purposes. The lot also comes with the matching animation drawing for the laughing villager, rendered in graphite with blue and red pencils. Included is a Japan Anime & Manga Appraisal Committee Registration Certificate. The villager's cel has adhered to the back of Ashitaka's cel; they both show some light surface scuffing that doesn't affect the art. The villager has some fading ink in the linework, and Ashitaka shows some faint paint wear on his hair. The animation drawing displays graphite smudging, traces of paint from the production cel, and very light surface scuffing.
