Description
The Chow Hound Private Snafu Color Model and Animation Drawing Sequence of 3 (Warner Brothers, 1944). "COME AND GET IT!!!" Private Snafu is first in line to fill his plate and still has the gall to ask for more in this sequential trio of animation and color model drawings from his military instructional short The Chow Hound originally held the personal collection of Disney Legend Ken O'Connor (1908 - 1998). During World War II, O'Connor worked both at the Disney studio as well as with Frank Capra on films for the First Motion Picture Unit (aka 18th AAF Base Unit) which included the Private Snafu film series. Noted as "Snafu 14" on the color model, The Chow Hound was released in June 1944 under the direction of Friz Freleng and Frank Tashlin with story by Theodor "Dr. Seuss" Geisel and Phil Eastman. Created for Scene 34, the hungry Private can be spotted insisting his tray must be piled even higher beginning near the 3:16 timestamp of the short. He has been rendered in graphite and colored pencil to half-figure closeups with one image also including the hands of the Unit's cook for impressive image areas ranging from 5.5" x 5.5" to 8.5" x 6" on sheets of 12 field 2-peghole animation paper which include frame numbers in the lower right corners. The stunningly shaded color model includes color callouts as well as a Signal Corps Animation Department official stamp. With typical handling and edge wear including faint age-related toning, peghole reinforcement, and small surface stains, overall this ravenous trio is in Very Good condition.From the Ken O’Connor Archive.
