Description

John Gee "Merry Happy" Illustration Original Art and Photographs Group (1930). John Gee (1895 - 1977) was an artist who illustrated many books and magazines for children. A quick search online found no photos of Mr. Gee, but did reveal that he was a teacher and printmaker as well as artist. This group includes a small ink on Bristol board Christmas Card illustration of a young child singing, with a dog alongside (also singing), and the words "Merry" and Happy." The child's figure size is 4"; total size of this card art is 6" x 8.25". Of special interest are two 4.25" x 5.5" photo holders with rare images of the artist. One has two small photos, one with the caption "About 1939?"; the second holder has a slightly larger copy of one of the other photo prints. All three items are from John Gee's personal archives. Art condition is Good, with toning and handling wear; photos are in Very Good condition.
