Description

The Disney Store - Jim Crow 17.5" Display Figure (Walt Disney, 1991). "I been done seen about everything... when I see an elephant fly!" Presented in this lot is a very rare Disney Store display figure of Jim Crow from Walt Disney's Dumbo! Jim Crow was developed for Walt Disney's Dumbo (1941), inspired by the popular dancing duo of Freddy and Eugene Jackson and brought to life by Dick Huemer, Joe Grant, and Ward Kimball. In the motion picture, Jim notably gives Dumbo the confidence to fly and is renowned for his rendition of "When I See an Elephant Fly" with vocals performed by the Hall Johnson Choir of Los Angeles. After decades of resonating with generations of audiences the fan-favorite character appeared in a Dumbo-themed tableau in locations of The Disney Store. The first Disney Store opened in 1987, with new locations opening and operating for 34 years, until the last store closed its doors in September 2021. These figural display pieces were not intended for sale to the general public and are of the few salvaged from the memorable retail chain. The medium-sized crow figure is made of hand-painted fiberglass and bears a 1991 Walt Disney Company copyright mark on its back. This figural prop measures 17.5" x 12.5" x 10" and is in Very Good condition exhibiting minor oxidation on his support, scuffs, and minor wear.
