Description

Mary Blair Cinderella Early Concept Painting Original Art (Walt Disney, 1950). "New mouse in the house. Brand-new. Never saw it before," Jaq informs Cinderella that they have a new guest, a mouse that has fallen into a rat trap and needs help. The kind-hearted Cinderella goes downstairs to meet her new friend in this outstandingly beautiful painting by the immensely skilled artist Mary Blair (1911 - 1978). This stunning early concept painting renders with discrete colorfulness the events taking place at about the 8:05 mark of the classic Disney film Cinderella, as our protagonist descends the somber staircase to meet Gus for the first time. A master of color and shape, Mary Blair creates an impressive eerie mood with just enough brushstrokes to be clear and evocative, aided by her splendid choice of color that places the spotlight on the bright Cinderella reaching for the mouse trap, a gesture that conveys her compassionate nature. This beautiful gouache painting, presented on a 12" x 14.25" glass-fronted frame with a mat opening of 5.75" x 7.75", was gifted to the 30+ years Disney character artist Mark Mitchell by Lee Blair (1911 - 1993), Mary Blair's husband and Disney artist. Frame is sold as-is. This well-preserved piece presents minor handling wear, and it's in Very Good condition.
From the 30+ Year Disney Character Artist Mark Mitchell Collection.
