Description
Alice in Wonderland Queen of Hearts and King of Hearts Production Cel with Preliminary Production Background and Walt Disney Signature (Walt Disney, 1951). "I'll ask the questions! Do you play croquet?" "Yes, Your Majesty." "Then let the game begin!" The Queen of Hearts samples the balance of her flamingo croquet mallets as The King of Hearts observes in this delightful original production cel setup. Fantastic images of the beloved Alice in Wonderland characters, these cels are displayed on a rare original production background rendered in gouache on board. In addition, and perhaps most excitingly, this setup comes with the highly elusive signature of Walt Disney! Backgrounds of the film are attributed to such Disney greats as Ray Huffine, Ralph Hulett, Art Riley, Brice Mack, Dick Anthony, Thelma Witmer, and Claude Coats. These cels have been trimmed to image, and the Queen can be seen at the 1:03:07 mark of the film. The King was created for the 1:07:05 mark, but shows differences in expression, possibly used as a color model cel. The background bears a likeness to the ones seen at the 1:04:59 to 1:06:08 marks of the film, likely a preliminary production background created during the development of the scene. The setup and signature are framed under Plexiglas with a mat window size of 10.25" x 8.5" and an overall frame size of 20.5" x 21". All frames are sold as-is. Photos are not representative of actual frame condition. Minor studio handling, and the background shows a horizontal mark near the top edge. The background is trimmed to fit the frame. The Walt Disney signature is in red pencil on a sheet of bond paper, matted separately in the frame. Very Good condition.Auction Info
