Description

Angel's Egg Nameless Young Girl Animation Drawing (Studio Deen, 1985). Gathering water from the stream to quench her thirst, the nameless young girl of the animated art film Angel's Egg is presented in this remarkable original animation drawing. Written and directed by Mamoru Oshii (Ghost in the Shell, Patlabor: The Movie, Urusei Yatsura 2: Beautiful Dreamer), this early work by the influential director famously features very little spoken dialogue leaving its viewers with generous freedom of interpretation. Anime critic and historian Helen McCarthy has declared it "an early masterpiece of symbolic film-making," stating that "its surreal beauty and slow pace created a Zen-like atmosphere, unlike any other anime." In May 2024 it was announced that Oshii would be overseeing the 4K remastering of the film for the upcoming 40th anniversary. Seen early on, near the 9:38 timestamp of the film, this mysterious and nameless child has been rendered in graphite and colored pencil to a character size of 7.5" x 7.5" on 13.75" x 9" animation paper which is numbered A50 along the top edge. With light handling and edge wear including minor surface wear/debris, overall this inquisitive drawing is in Very Good condition.
