Description

Marge's Little Lulu Little Golden Book #476 Front Cover Original Art with Printer's Mechanical Art and Published Book Group of 3 (Golden Press, 1962). Artists Woody Kimbrell (1916 - 1990 who did the Little Lulu daily newspaper comic strip) and background painter Al White teamed to produce this original cover art featuring Little Lulu Moppet and her young friend Alvin Jones. Marjorie Henderson Buell created the character for The Saturday Evening Post in 1935, replacing Carl Anderson's Henry. Lulu existed as a single panel comic strip in the weekly Post magazine until 1944, but Lulu's biggest exposure came when Dell Comics published a comic book series with all new stories about Lulu and her friends, written and drawn by legendary comic book creator John Stanley. The cover original is painted in gouache on a sheet of 10" x 15" illustration board with an image size of approximately 7.75" x 9"; the artboard includes a paper mat with a 6.75" x 8" opening and an acetate overlay with hand-painted preliminary lettering. The printer's art consists of a black and white photostat of the art with the book's "trade dressing," the finished title lettering and Little Golden Book strip along the top edge; the artboard measures 9.25" x 13". A first printing "A" copy of the book is included. The original art is in Very Good condition with minor handling wear.
