Ranma ½ Ranma Saotome Production Cel with Production Background (Studio Deen, c. 1989-96). During the 80's and early 90's, a large number of martial art manga series were being released, and author Rumiko Takahashi chose to put her own spin on the topic, adding elements of romantic comedy and an interesting premise with her series Ranma ½. The story centers around Ranma Saotome, a young male martial artist who fell into one of Jusenkyo's cursed springs where a young girl perished while practicing with his father in China. Since then, every time cold water douses him, he turns into a girl! In his female form, Ranma winks at us in this lovely hand-painted production cel from the series. The 12 field sized production cel, numbered A5 in the top right corner, has the red-headed character measuring 10" x 8". The cel is showcased on a great production background showing some lamps glowing in the dark, done in gouache on background board, with an image size of 14" x 9". The cel shows some fading on the linework, some possible re-inking on Ranma's mouth, and it is stapled to the production background. The production background has some faint stains near the bottom right corner and a small ding on the top left corner. Overall, the lot shows minor handling wear from production, in Very Good condition.
