Donald Duck's Toy Sailboat Little Golden Book Front Cover Illustration by Samuel Armstrong Original Art Display with Signature (Walt Disney/Simon & Schuster, 1954). "Wak!" Donald discovers Chip and Dale in his prize model sailboat after it went missing from his mantle in this fun children's storybook, and here's the original cover painting by animation legend Samuel Armstrong (1893 - 1976), a Disney animator and director with credits that include Bambi, Fantasia (including the "Night on Bold Mountain" segment), and Dumbo. Sam illustrated the entire book (we have interior pages in another lot in this auction), but this cover is a superb bit of Disney art. The painting is in gouache on board that has been matted for a special display that includes a color photocopy of the published book cover and an authentic and distinctive Samuel Armstrong signature matted with the art. The painting is in a 10.25" x 13" aperture; the mat is framed with Plexiglas for an overall size of 16.5" x 24". The Plexi has a small ding along the upper left side, over the mat. All frames are sold as-is. Photos are not representative of actual frame condition. The art condition is Very Good with minor handling wear.Auction Info
